How does Fixed Wireless work?

Superloop, in partnership with the Western Australian government, have constructed 12 new high-tech Fixed Wireless towers in the Great Southern and Wheatbelt regions.

Some of these towers are connected to underground fibre cables that allow access to our advanced network. These towers take the signal coming through the cables and transform it into a microwave radio signal. Fixed Wireless customers will have a microwave radio dish installed on the roof of their property which picks up the radio signal transmitted from the towers.

Inside your home, farm, or business, you’ll also be set up with a cable in your wall that you will need to connect to a router. This router takes the signal from the dish and directs it to all your connected internet-enabled devices.

Normal weather conditions shouldn’t affect your Fixed Wireless connection, however, as with any internet connection, extreme weather events can cause some disruption, but these are rare and infrequent. As Fixed Wireless connections rely on short-range signal, bad weather will generally not impact the signal transmission.

Don't know how much quota you need? A guide to typical Internet usage, including approximate usage estimates for popular Internet applications can be found here.

1 The advertised speeds are the maximum access service speed describes the theoretical maximum speed attainable by the Superloop Installed Antenna (modem) at the highest transmission rate of the wireless network made possible by the technology. The maximum theoretical speeds should not be relied upon in making a purchasing decision. Real world usage is unlikely to consistently achieve such speeds, due to the factors described above. Learn more about speeds and performance.

2 Based on a 12 month contact. Setup cost is offset by contract length and is based on a standard, residential installation to a single storey premises.

2 Standard Plus plan speeds are not available in all fixed wireless enabled areas.
